DSA milestones

The foundation for today’s Dan-Slovakia Agrar was laid in 2001, when the reconstruction of a degraded state farm from 1949 began. Over the last 20 years, the company has grown from 900 dairy cows and 2,400 hectares of land to the current 8,600 hectares of land and 10,500 sows and pregnant gilts. That makes Dan-Slovakia Agrar one of Slovakia’s largest agricultural companies.

  • 1949 – The agricultural company Štátny majetok was founded in Czechoslovakia. It was owned by the state, and its establishment was conditioned by land reform and confiscation of the former owner’s land.
  • 1995 – Part of Štátny majetok was privatised into the company VM Agromed a.s.
  • 2001 – VM Agromed went bankrupt and a part of it was separated into a new company called Farma VM a.s. which was acquired by Slovakia Invest A/S. At the time of the acquisition, VM Agromed held 900 dairy cows, 2,400 hectares of land and 3 empty pig farms. Soon the name changed from VM Agromed to Dan-Slovakia Agrar, and a new journey began.
  • 2002-3 – In the following years, the pig farms were renovated. The Nagy Dűr stables increased to 3,000 sows and pregnant gilts, the Vrbina stables to 12,000 weaners and the Dolny Stal stables to 20,000 finishers. The cow stables in Novy Dvor were expanded to include a new milking parlour and 1,300 dairy cows. In addition, we acquired a neighbouring farm in Dolný Bar with 1,200 hectars of arable land.
  • 2005 – Acquisition of 640 hectares of land in Jánostelek.
  • 2010 – Acquisition of a neighbouring farm in Kutniky with 1,300 hectares of land.
  • 2010-11 – The dairy production was further extended to 1,800 dairy cows. The pig farms also became larger, more than twice as large actually. The Nagy Dűr stables went from 3,000 sows and pregnant gilts to 6,700, and the Vrbina stables went from 12,000 weaners to 32,000.
  • 2014 – In 2014, we closed down the dairy production and continued to specialise in pig and crop production. We established a new green-field project in Velke Kosihy for 23,000 finishers.
  • 2016 – Two years later, we expanded the weaner farm in Vrbina to 45,000 weaners. At the same time, we increased our feed mill and commodity stock capacities to maintain a feed production equivalent to the growing number of pigs.
  • 2017 – The Nagy Dűr farm was increased to 7,950 sows and pregnant gilts. We also added 1,100 hectares of arable land to our plant production
  • 2018 – Wishing to contribute further to the local communities we established the social fund, DSA Nadacia.
  • 2020 – The Nagy Dűr stables were expanded to 8,900 sows and 1,600 pregnant gilts. Another farm with 830 hectares of arable land was acquired
